Europe, Accidents in the Alps

Publication Year: 1948.

Accidents in the Alps. It is with profound regret that we here report the loss in 1947 of three distinguished younger members of the Alpine Club (London). J. E. Q. Barford, Honorary Secretary of the British Mountaineering Council and author of Climbing in Britain, died in an accident on the Col de la Coste Rouge on July 23rd. J. R. Jenkins and H. E. Kretschmer were killed on August 7th, during a descent of Mont Blanc by the old Brenva route.
