South America, Argentina/Chile, Andes, Tronador

Tronador. A reconnaissance of this peak with a view to finding the best approach was made by the same party that climbed Lanin They forced a route up the Rio Tronador but found that one of the ridges which they had thought to be possible would be extremely difficult. This approach is, however, quite feasible and would lead to a good point from which the mountain can be attacked with a reasonable chance of success. The mountain itself has been attempted eight times by F. Reichert and the highest point reached was 11,400 ft. in 1931.
