A winter ascent of Longs Peak was made on New Year’s Day, 1929, by Jess L. Fults, A. L. Richey and Leo Sisler and also another about the same time in 1930, by Fults. After the first climb the climbers were compelled to spend several days in the cabin on the Boulderfield, at an elevation of about 12,000 feet, because of a blizzard. On the second ascent the wind again proved to be of extreme violence, These are the first recorded winter ascents since that of January, 1925, when Agnes Vaile lost her life on the descent and Walter Kiener was permanently crippled.
